PARIS FASHION WEEK HIGHLIGHTS: BERLIN DESIGN

At the heart of the buzzing Tranoï space at the Carrousel du Louvre, there was a big focus on our friends over in Berlin; ten selected designers from the city showcased at Paris Fashion Week. Names such as F.Rau, Issever Bahri, THU THU, HIEN LE and kimberlit were amongst just some of the emerging talent coming from this creative city, famous for a more edgy take on fashion.

f.rau

Martina Rau started her career working with Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen. Seven years later, f.rau is now a fully fledge fashion label which operates on an organic process of Rau letting herself get taken on a journey. Signature handmade prints go hand in hand with draped skirts, louche wrap jackets and loose column dresses for more considered layering. Earlier this Summer, Rau opened her first concept store in Mitte, the creative neighbourhood in Berlin.

MIROÏKE

The label chose a few items for their SS12 collection, working in a few garments along with shoes and accessories. Ulrike Seidel and Ramiro Calderon Alvarado launched the label back in 2004, and are now set to launch their new invention – the ‘ZIP-SHOO’- a textured leather shoe complete with a removable wedge heel for the wearer to wear them as flats. Inspired.

Issever Bahri

Greek/ Turkish design duo Cimen Bahri and Derya Issever are the brainchildren behind a brand famed for craftmanship, technique and concept. Issever Bahri blends handcrafted techniques of their native countries into the main design and texture of the garment itself. For example, a clean white knit jumper is given added nostalgia with tiny hand-crocheted blue flowers applied. One of the more striking pieces is a jacket made of woven green and brown leather, bound so tightly, it has the appearance of a hundred electrical wires.
